Build Up...Let Down

Have you ever heard of Harold II? He was a Saxon King of England who came to power after the twenty-four year rule of King Edward "The Confessor." Harold was the Earl of East Anglia and secured his reputation as a general by forcing the Welsh into submission. He served as a emissary to Normandy on behalf of Confessor Ed. As Edward The Confessinator lay dying, he named Harold his successor, forgetting about his own grandson. Well, this all happened in 1066.

If you know English history, you know that 1066 is significant. That was the year that William (I) of Normandy invaded England and won the Kingdom in the Battle of Hastings. That means that poor ol' Harold's reign began and ended in 1066. What a let down! Not only that, but he is remembered as the last English king to lose to a foreign invader. Ouch! Speaking of ouch, he died (according to legend) when a Norman arrow went through his eye in the battle.

I remind myself of that story to gain perspective. We were disappointed in another apartment viewing yesterday. When compared to having my eye poked by a crown-stealing Norman archer, that is not so bad. But still, it was raining on us when we walked to the apartment. That's something.

We look at one apartment today and another tomorrow. If these do not work out then that is the ball game. We have to tell our current landlord if we want our place for another year by Friday. The Lord has given us a lasting peace about the whole thing.
